The Troops are saluting you, genea-family, for all of your write ups and posts in their honor. On a personal note, I have learned so much in the way of African American History regarding the men and women who served during 1914 - 1953. And that is because each of you Bloggers took the time to write a post sharing someone’s story with us all. So, I thank you for making the 3rd Edition of the Carnival of African American Genealogy a success. The ancestors thank you. The genealogy community thanks you.

Who can participate?

Given that FREEDOM is subjective, FreedomTweet is open to EVERYONE! We all can identify with being and/or desiring to be liberated from something, right?! FreedomTweet is for the entire community!

Is there anything we can do now?

Yes! Starting today through June 12th genea-bloggers should write about the history of Juneteenth and promote other celebrations happening across the country! If you write a post about FreedomTweet and/or Juneteenth, please email us at CoAAG2010@gmail.com and provide the URL!

Please spread the word about FreedomTweet 2010 with your employers, churches, schools and community organizations -- everyone is invited to join in the celebration!

Anything else we should know?

3rd Edition of CoAAG Kicks Off Today!

Today is Carnival Day and the Troops are here! As you know, this edition focused on African Americans in the Military 1914 – 1953. You will not believe some of the stories that came in that have previously been untold. It is my honor as host, to formally invite you in. Grab your favorite beverage and ease into your favorite chair, because you won’t be able to break away.

The 3^rd Edition features 15 stories about brave African Americans who accepted the call to serve, in the midst of difficult and unsettling times. You will run the gamut of emotions as you read each post. But I am certain you will emerge with a feeling of gratitude for those who sacrificed and one of pride for manner in which they served our country.

On a final note, thank you, genea-family for supporting the 3^rd Edition. We are a success due to YOUR diligence and hard work!

The 3rd Edition of CoAAG - They Served With Honor - Deadline in 4 days!

A-Ten-Hut!! Alright, at ease, troops. What’s that, you say? Have I been watching too much of “A Soldier’s Story?” No, no, no, I am just hyped up about the 3rd Edition of the Carnival of African-American Genealogy {CoAAG}. We’re down to the wire, now. The deadline for contributing to the third edition is upon us. The theme is “They Served With Honor ~ In Memoriam, African-Americans in The Military 1914 - 1953.” The submissions are pouring in but make sure yours is not AWOL! Some (starting with me) have said that they weren’t sure they had enough supplies in their rucksack for a post. No worries. If you don’t think you have enough information, share what you have. We simply want to acknowledge the contributions made by African-Americans in the Military during these periods. No photo? No problem. TELL us about your Military Hero. In need of some inspiration? Then “double-time it” on over to my blog and read about Major Charity Adams.

The deadline to submit your post is Wednesday, May 12, 2010. The easiest way to submit is to email the blog name, post name and Permalink URL to CoAAG2010@gmail.com

After reading all the wonderful posts submitted for the 2nd Edition of the CoAAG, I am even more thrilled with the participation we received for this carnival.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a story about their grandmother. A special thank you to all those who took the time to read the stories and memories, and then leave a comment to the author; I know each one appreciates your support. It was a wonderful CoAAG. I know our grandmothers are smiling.

Open for Submissions: Carnival of African-American Genealogy ~ 3rd Edition They Served With Honor ~ In Memoriam, African-Americans in The Military

Hot on the heels of Grandma’s Hand comes the 3rd Edition of the CoAAG. This month the theme is “They Served With Honor ~ In Memoriam, African-Americans in The Military 1914 - 1953.” There are many African-Americans who served during these times of conflict. Let’s use this month’s carnival to pay tribute to them.

We’re wanting everyone in the Genealogy Community to write at least one post, highlighting a Patriotic African-American Ancestor who fought for our country’s freedom. You can pull a hero from your family tree, or politely pull from someone else’s! In this event, all recognition will be positive.

Needing more information? There is an open call for submissions on Reconnected Roots. By the way, forgive my manners! I am Amy Cain, the family researcher behind Reconnected Roots. It is my absolute pleasure to host the 3rd Edition of the CoAAG. I’d love to sit and chat with you more, but I have to get going. I’ve got Ancestors to research and old photos to find!

The deadline for submissions is on May 12, 2010. So, don’t wait until the last minute. You know how chatty those Ancestors can be once they start talking!

It’s here! The 2nd Edition of the Carnival of African American Genealogy ~Grandma’s Hand: Grandmother’s and Their Influence On The Family has hit town. I’m Sandra Taliaferro and I am extremely excited to act as the host for this very special CoAAG. We asked you, the genea-community, to share memories and stories of your grandmothers, and your response was overwhelming.

This 2nd Edition of the CoAAG features 20 submissions with memories and stories that will make you laugh and maybe cry, but will surely pull at your emotions and warm your hearts. There are stories of strength and love, and memories of good old down home cooking. These women were indeed the foundations of their families; this trait is clearly expressed in the posts you'll read. The treasured images speak to their beauty and grace. It’s all about grandmothers; we give tribute and we honor them.

Thank you for supporting this 2nd Edition of the CoAAG. You make it possible…You keep it alive!

What's That? White Folks Have Grandmas Too?!:-)

Well Hello There! Now that I've got your attention (c'mon smile!:-) I just wanted to make our GeneaFamily aware that Carnival of African-American Genealogy submissions are open to EVERYONE!

Until a recent "clarification" of participants was requested, it never dawned on me that folks in the geneablogging community may not be crystal-clear that we welcome CoAAG submissions from both geneabloggers and non-bloggers, irrespective of the hue you've been blessed with!:-)

So please, share with us the influence your Grandmother(s) has/had in your life and family. The April 12th deadline is fast approaching!

As we continue to share with one another, I think we'll be surprised to find our similarities far outweigh our differences.

Heck, that's what makes us a perfectly multi-hued community of Ancestor lovers!

There are only 12 days until the April 12th deadline for submissions to the 2nd edition of the Carnival of African American Genealogy, Grandma’s Hand: Grandmothers and Their Influence On The Family. The carnival goes live on Monday, April 19th. The submissions are coming in, and I’m super excited to be your host for this 2nd edition of CoAAG. The Carnival of African American Genealogy 2nd edition rolls out on Monday, 19 April 2010. The theme for the 2nd edition is - Grandma’s Hand: Grandmothers and Their Influence On The Family. Yes, the spotlight is on grandmothers, and we want you to tell your story and share memories of your grandmother.

I’m Sandra Taliaferro, your host for this 2nd edition of CoAAG. I am so excited and honored to serve as your host. You can read my Call For Submissions post here at I Never Knew My Father. It’s a great theme. I know all those memories of grandma are already racing through your mind, so get busy putting pen to paper and fingers to keyboard. Share you memories and pictures too! I can’t wait to read all the wonderful memories about grandmothers. I anticipate many wonderful and heartwarming stories!

Friend of Friends Friday: CoAAG 1st Edition Arrives In Town!

Greetings Friends!

Luckie here and how fitting that the 1st Edition of the Carnival of African-American Genealogy (CoAAG) would go live on Friend of Friends Friday (thanks for the theme inspiration Leslie Ann and Greta!:-)

I am UBER-excited to host the 1st Edition of CoAAG -- Restore My Name – Slave Records & Genealogy Research and so amazed by the show of support served-up by the genea-community!

CoAAG's 1st Edition features 35 submissions from a diverse group of contributors! Represented in this historic Carnival offering are contributions from descendants of slaves, slave owners and free-men. We are Yankees and Southerners alike, seasoned GeneaBloggers and Newbies to the fold!

In essence, we are a blended community of descendants who have made the choice to heal history, rather than hide from it. I cannot say it enough how very proud of us I am.

We have sparked something BIG in the genea-sphere that the broader community should take note of and mirror.
